The Olympics have concluded and as I was watching the closing ceremony I realized that canvassing has something in common with the Olympics.
There were over 14,000 athletes from 205 teams were competing for gold, silver and bronze. To think of 14,000+ athletes is a staggering number, but of those there are at least 10 times as many that didn’t qualify to pursue their Olympics dreams. It’s no doubt the athletes have skills, but behind every one of them is a coach who raised their game and elevated their instinctive skill. In fact, behind every successful athlete, business person or entrepreneur is a coach.
A canvasser is like a race horse, he or she has to endure competition, obstacles and sometimes less than comfortable weather, but the great ones come out on top. The great ones can be developed.
How do you get a canvasser to increase his or her lead production? If you’re stuck, then you and your team need a coach. Michael Phelps has twice the gold medals of any other Olympic athlete and even he couldn’t have achieved this herculean accomplishment without a coach.
